Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic coatings?

Epoxy and polyaspartic materials can serve different roles in a floor system. Epoxy may provide a primer, base or decorative layer, while a specified polyaspartic coating may be used as a protective finish. Cure time, UV exposure, moisture and traction requirements affect the selection. Bear Design recommends the combination after evaluating the slab.

Will the coating peel or chip over time?

Proper prep is what makes a coating last. Mechanical grinding, crack repair and moisture testing before any product goes down help prevent peeling and chipping. Performance also depends on slab condition, the selected system and how the floor is used and maintained. Our qualifying concrete floor coating installs are backed by a 10-year warranty, subject to written terms.

How long before I can use the floor?

Light foot traffic is typically fine within 24 hours. Vehicles and heavy use depend on the system — we’ll give you a specific timeline for your install before we leave.

Do I need to empty the space completely?

For most garage and basement floors, yes — the surface needs to be clear so we can grind the full area. We’ll walk you through what to move and what the timeline looks like when we schedule.

Can you coat a floor that’s already been painted or coated?

It depends on what’s there and how well it’s bonded. In some cases the existing material can be removed and the slab prepped properly. We evaluate this on-site — don’t assume it’s a dealbreaker until we look at it.

Do you work on commercial spaces?

Yes. Warehouses, showrooms, retail floors, restaurant kitchens — we do commercial coating work across the Pittsburgh area. Get in touch and we’ll scope it out.
